I keep looking and I keep finding information about my ancestors.

Theophilus Tatum ( the father of J.C. Tatum who was with the First Company Richmond Howitzers ) was a farmer and slave owner, I've posted a few things before about him.

Henrico County to Wit: Inquisition indented taken at the house of Lum Scott in said county the 16th day of March 1846 before me Jesse F. Keesee one of the Coroners of the Commonwealth for the said County upon the view of the body of Effy Smith alias Spurlock a free woman of Colour late of said county then and there lying dead and upon the Oaths of William F. Gunn, Thomas J. Childrey, Benjamin Mosby, William H. Pleasants, John E Clarke, Oscar Pearce James Throgmorton, Samuel Ball. Theophilus Tatum, William Green, James R. Roper and George H. Cox - - of the county of Henrico who being sworn and charged to enquire on the part of the said Commonwealth, when where, how and after what manner the said woman came to her death, do say, upon their oath, that according to the evidence the said Effy Smith was deranged, and that she was found dead in the well of the said Lum Scott this morning, and therefore they are of opinion that the cause to her death, by falling in said well, and not otherwise, and so the jurors all say, In witnesss whereof, as well the aforesaid Coroner as the jurors aforesaid have to this inquisition put their seals on the day and year aforesaid and at the place aforesaid Wm F Gunn seal T. Henrico County to Wit: Inquisition indented, taken at a wood near the farm of Wm [William] F. Gunn in the said County the 7th day of January 1845 before me Jesse F. Keesee coroner of the County aforesaid upon the view of the body of a negro man named Peter Harriss late a slave then and there lying dead, and upon the Oaths of William F. Gunn, William F. Depriest, Henry Sharpe, Thos [Thomas] J. Blake, Chas [Charles] L McCaull, Elijah Throgmorton, Thos [Thomas] E Cox, George H Cox, Samuel Ball, Theophilus Tatum, Charles M. Pleasants & William H Pleasants, good and lawful men of the county aforesaid, who being sworn, and charged to inquire, on the part of the said Commonwealth, when where and after what manner the said Peter Harriss came to his death do say upon their Oath, there being no marks of violence on his body, that he was found dead on this morning, and that he came to his death by the visitation of God in a natural way and not otherwise, and so the jurors, all say In witness whereof the jurors aforesaid as well as the Coroner aforesaid have to this inquisition, put their hands and seals the day & year aforesaid and at the house of William F. Gunn,

Henrico County to wit: Inquisition indented, taken at the Richmond & Osbournes Turnpike Ferry in the County aforesaid, the 2tth day of March in the year of our Lord 1838 before one Jesse F. Keesee one of the Coroners of the Commonwealth for the County aforesaid upon the view of the body of Robert a slave late the property of Edward Cox of said county then lying dead and upon the oaths of Edward Marable, Edward Cox, William F. Gunn, Dandridge Ball, William H. [Aunnous?], Alfred R. Buffin, Patrick Jordan, Thofilus Tatum, Pleasant J. Nunnally, Thomas E. Cox, Turner Bottom, and Jackson F. Childrey of the county aforesaid who being sworn and charged to inquire, on the part of the said Commonwealth, when, where, how, and after what manner the said Robert came to his death, do say upon their oath, that the said Robert was accidentally drowned on the 18th instant by the boat turning over while crossing the James River at the aforesaid Ferry and not otherwise and so the jurors aforesaid all say. In witness whereof the jurors aforesaid as well as the coroner aforesaid have to this inquisition put their hands and seals, the day and year aforesaid and at the place aforesaid. Theos. Tatum.
