Kevin Levin's shortsightedness

Every once in a while I check out Flogger Blogs,

I did so today and found Kevin being shortsighted and misinformed 

on Lee / Jackson day in Virginia.

Kevin states -

" I can say with confidence that very few people formally acknowledged the holiday. In fact, you would be hard pressed to find any formal recognition of the holiday throughout the state beyond the Sons of Confederate Veterans and other heritage groups. "

Wow !! I guess Kevin doesn't remember that Lee / Jackson Day

is a State Holiday in Virginia.

State Holidays January 1

 New Year’s Day January 2 8 hours additional holiday time

  January 16 Lee-Jackson Day

 January 19 Martin Luther King, Jr.

 Day February 16 George Washington Day

 May 25 Memorial Day

 July 3 Independence Day

 October 12 Columbus Day 

November 11 Veterans Day 

November 25 4 hours additional holiday time

 November 26 Thanksgiving November 27 Day After Thanksgiving

 December 24 8 hours additional holiday time December 25 Christmas 

All state employees get the day off WITH PAY !

Now then that sure seems like "Formal Recognition" to me !

I haven't heard of one state employee refusing the day off or returning the day's pay.

UPDATE !

In true Levin style Kevin re-invents his definition of formal and tries to claim victory.

Now I gotta agree, Lee / Jackson Day ain't what it once was.

Yep it's still a State Holiday, but it ain't on any calenders I've seen.

The Left Wingers / PC crowd are trying to put it in the Memory Hole.

But it ain't dead by a long shot !

 Holidays tend to change with time, Santa has replaced Jesus, so has the Easter Bunny .

But no one has yet replaced Lee / Jackson.

It may fade with time, but Shall Not  be forgotten.

But it rubs me the wrong way !

My Dad taught me RESPECT for Old Glory.

Guess what is on the Mantle of my home ?

Dad's Dog Tags, and the flag that covered his coffin !

Dad was in WWII and Korea !

So I'm offended by the Ferguson mob burning the flag !

The KKK using the American flag also offends me.

I have a simple solution for the Flag Abusers --

Use Grapeshot,Then let God sort em out !

Flying in the Sweet Virginia Breeze !

 

Despite the oppositions best efforts the I-95 Battle Flag went up today !

I almost forgot !

I'm accumulating information regarding problems with Confederate Heritage.

Surely it was not for slavery they fought. The great majority of them had never owned a slave and had little or no interest in the institution. My own father, for example, had freed his slaves long years before; that is, all save one, who would not be "emancipated," our dear "Mammy," who clung to us when we moved to the North and never recognized any change in her condition or her relations to us. The great conflict will never be properly comprehended by the man who looks upon it as a war for the preservation of slavery.

        Nor was it, so far as Virginia was concerned, a war in support of the right of secession or the Southern interpretation of the Constitution. Virginia did not favor this interpretation; at least, she did not favor the exercise of the right of secession. Up to President Lincoln's call for troops she refused to secede. She changed her position under the distinct threat of invasion--the demand that she help coerce her sister States. This was the turning point. The Whig party, the anti-secession party of Virginia, became the war party of Virginia upon this issue. As John B. Baldwin, the great Whig and Union leader, said, speaking of the effect of Lincoln's call for troops, "We have no Union men in Virginia now." The change of front was instantaneous, it was intuitive. Jubal Early was the type of his party--up to the proclamation, the most extreme anti-secessionist and anti-war man in the Virginia Convention; after the proclamation, the most enthusiastic man in the Commonwealth in advocacy of the war and personal service in it.
