Sunday afternoon Carney, his family, and the Virginia Volunteers for the Confederacy joined together to fix up an aging confederate cemetery.
Many of the volunteers are descendants of confederate soldiers and with Veterans Day right around the corner, they wanted to honor those who came before them.
People from all over central and southwest Virginia got to work to fix up the Old Presbyterian Cemetery in Waynesboro. Carney says he can't think of a better way to celebrate.
“I came here because of my birthday and that's the only thing I want to do. And I'm doing it because of Veterans Day. I'm honoring the soldiers and want to do something good for them,” Carney said.
Carney says this is a part of his heritage and it feels good to honor his fallen ancestors.
Many of the volunteers were strangers before Sunday. They all connected with this cemetery cleanup via Facebook which is how they were able to organize this birthday tribute to Carney."
Excellent. Well done, young man [><]

ReplyDeleteWhen I go to events honoring our Confederate ancestors I see a lot of gray,
