Well it seems Hollywood has found a way to vilify the south
again !
I'm just guessin cause
I ain't gonna watch it! Heck for once I'd be rootin for the Vampires !
But I am willin to bet the Vampires are gonna be
Confederates.
Now then if this movie was / Robert E Lee Vampire Hunter,
the Yankee Bloggers would be all over it !
Old Kevin Levin would have gone nuts with it !
BUT it's- Abe (Halo) Lincoln and all of em are quiet. Go
Figure !
Come on fellas give me a break, Review the movie for me !
While your at it how
about checkin out , Abe Lincoln VS Zombies, (it's at Red Box)
Zombies - Zombies - Zombies - Zombies !
Y'all Have a nice day !
President by day? That pic looks like Abe about 20 years before he was President...Just sayin.
ReplyDeleteIt doesn't really villify the South. The Vamps are basically an undercurrent that is running politics in the South to provide them with a major food source.
ReplyDeleteI don't think the movie will do well. The only people I know that have seen it so far, including me, are people that read the book. The movie deviates from the book a lot BUT the author of the book also wrote the script. It sort of takes on a life of its own. The good thing about this alternate/revisionist story is that it gives the modern age, so driven on the Vampire pop culture (Twilight, Blade, Vamp clothing, etc.) a modern relevant attachment to the issue of slavery.
Thanks, Rob.
ReplyDeleteThere is a common denominator between the film and reality, Lincoln NEVER Killed a Vampire, or freed a Slave.
ReplyDelete13th Amendment Dav
ReplyDeleteOOOOOK, Rob:
ReplyDeletecould you expand on your answer? I thought Lincoln was dead when that was passed.
Rob - could you explain this ?
ReplyDeleteAmendment XIII
Passed by Congress May 1, 1810 - Ratified December 9, 1812.
"If any citizen of the United States shall accept, claim, receive, or retain any title of nobility or honour, or shall without the consent of Congress, accept and retain any present, pension, office, or emolument of any kind whatever, from any emperor, king, prince, or foreign power, such person shall cease to be a citizen of the united States, and shall be incapable of holding any office of trust or profit under them, or either of them."
Things that make us normal folks go HMMMMMMM?
Dave,
ReplyDeleteLincoln was dead when the 13th Amendment was ratified. But he was alive when it was passed and signed.
On January 11, 1864, Senator John B. Henderson of Missouri submitted a joint resolution for a constitutional amendment abolishing slavery. The abolition of slavery had historically been associated with Republicans, but Henderson was one of the War Democrats.
April 8, 1864, the bill passed in the Senate by a vote of 38 to 6.
It was rejected by the House. When this happened, Lincoln took an active role to get it passed through the house the second time around. he even added it to the Republican Party platform for the next presidential election.
January 31, 1865 The bill passes the House 119-56.
Lincoln signed the amendment, Feb. 1, 1865. http://memory.loc.gov/mss/mal/mal3/436/4361100/001.jpg
On December 6, 1865 Georgia ratified the amendment, making it the 27th of 36 states to do so. At this point, the amendment was adopted.
So even though Lincoln never saw it fruition, he helped the bill get through congress by campaigning on it before savannah fell. He signed the amendment, before the war was over.
