Collards are a Southern Tradition.
Especially at Thanksgiving and Christmas

And around my house I buy em and I cook em !

This years batch were fresh cut and gotten from a local market.

I got em home and proudly displayed them !

The price was scary --

A Helluva good batch !

I like to cut the veins out of mine before I chop em -

Then I chop em up and soak em in salt water -
(some folks use Baking Soda also)

I will mush em and flip em a few times to make sure they are right !

The water will start turning green !

After an hour or so we fill the pot

Start off with a bit of meat

I got some seasoning meat at the same store --

This meat also makes good omelets and biscuit meat, I might have a stroke or heart attack from eating it but I gotta die from somethin and it ain't gonna be hunger ! 

OK meat in the bottom

Then layer collards and meat

Til the pot is full !

I start off with about 2 Quarts of water !

I cover mine with a colander it allows steam to escape but also gives some drip back !

Turn the heat on high ! !

They cook down FAST gotta keep an eye on them !!

and add a little water as needed !

Once they cook down, turn down the heat to medium ! 

How long do you cook em ?

Till the're done !

I love collards !

I put a shot of white vinegar on mine !

I know different folks cook em different ways !

But this is how I do it !

Sanctuary Symbolism ?

           The Following is part of an article from my local paper The Suffolk News Herald.

The article deals with Suffolk residents telling city council that they want their 2nd amendment rights protected from the upcoming gun law changes proposed by the Governor.

Mark Herring the AG of Virginia says it's Symbolic !

Excuse me Mr Herring it's not symbolism - it's the Voters telling you and their city Government they want the state to BACK OFF !

However the Democrat's seldom listen to the people, instead they Dictate to the people. 

They tell us what we want or need !

Now then - Delegate Jay Jones says that a Civil War mentality is prominent with this movement !

Hey I thought the Civil War was over Slavery ( at least that's what they are teaching in school )

not the 2nd amendment.

So Del. Jones thinks it's OK for localities to choose if they want to move war monuments, 

but do not have the right to choose on protecting the 2nd amendment ! 

BALDERDASH !

Gov. Northam and AG. Herring you are public servants !

You are not Dictators but servants, you do what the voters tell you to do !

If ya need to fix a gun law ---

It seems Ralph (coonman) Northam wants to make changes to the gun laws in Virginia.

Coonman Proposes -

Legislation requiring background checks on all firearms sales and transactions. The bill mandates that any person selling, renting, trading, or transferring a firearm must first obtain the results of a background check before completing the transaction.

Legislation banning dangerous weapons. This will include bans on assault weapons, high-capacity magazines, bump stocks and silencers.

Legislation to reinstate Virginia’s successful law allowing only one handgun purchase within a 30-day period.

Legislation requiring that lost and stolen firearms be reported to law enforcement within 24 hours.

Legislation creating an Extreme Risk Protective Order, allowing law enforcement and the courts to temporarily separate a person from firearms if the person exhibits dangerous behavior that presents an immediate thre

Legislation prohibiting all individuals subject to final protective orders from possessing firearms. The bill expands Virginia law which currently prohibits individuals subject to final protective orders of family abuse from possessing firearms.

Legislation enhancing the punishment for allowing access to loaded, unsecured firearm by a child from a Class 3 Misdemeanor to a Class 6 felony. The bill also raises the age of the child from 14 to 18.

Legislation enabling localities to enact any firearms ordinances that are stricter than state law. This includes regulating firearms in municipal buildings, libraries and at permitted events.

The proposed laws only restrict law abiding gun owners.

HOWEVER !

I can see one gun law that needs tweaking !

Virginia's law covering Conceal Carry Permits !
Concealed carry is legal with a license/permit. Virginia Handgun Permits (VHPs) are issued to both residents and non-residents at least 21 years old and require a firearms training course that has been approved by the state.

Heck the way the law is written you can take an online course and qualify to carry a concealed hand gun, and you never have to touch a gun !

So for $28 you can be certified - and never have to touch a gun !
That's Crazy !!!

Heck the state will allow you to carry a pistol in your pocket and the only gun you have ever laid a hand on might be --


If the State is going to under wright your CCP/ VHPs it should require you to take a hands on course with real guns with Classroom instructors and shooting range experience.
 Or show proof that you have experience with a firearm !
It's a safety thing !

Otherwise the state might want to consider Constitutional Carry !
( This releases the state of any liability )

 The term constitutional carry, also called permit less carry, unrestricted carry, or Vermont carry, refers to the legal carrying of a handgun, either openly or concealed, without a license or permit.

Virginia's Conceal Carry law as written is simply another TAX !

Now that the Democrats have control, all Confederate Monuments will be abolished.                            And there is not a Damn thing we can do to stop it !

Makes it a Class 1 misdemeanor for any person knowingly to authorize a child under the age 18 to use a firearm except when the person is under the supervision of an adult.
Makes it a Class 1 misdemeanor to purchase more than one handgun a month, some exceptions apply.
Makes it a Class 2 misdemeanor for an armed CHP carrier to consume alcohol in public places.
Authorizes localities to enact their own firearm laws during permit events.
Increases age from 18 to 21 that an adult can purchase a firearm.
Increases age from 18 to 21 that an adult can possess a handgun.

And it won't be long til we also have to deal with --

The Sky went Silent !

On 9/11/2001 I was working on the approach of runways 32 Left and Right at Oceana,



                                    a bright day without a cloud in the sky.



We heard on a truck radio that a plane had hit the WTC.
We all thought it was a small passenger plane and continued with our job. Not long after we heard a second plane had hit the towers. All work came to a halt as we listened to the radio.
The project manager joined us as information filtered in.
Some time later we were told to evacuate the airfield
.
If you live or work near  Naval Air Station Oceana  you know it's seldom quiet jets are always taking off or landing.


But on 9/11 the skys went silent - Nothing was flying !

The airstrip was sealed off and we had a heck of a time leaving it as we had been instructed to do.
The exits had been blocked with Barricades and had Service men with weapons preventing anyone from entering or leaving. I waited at the base of the Tower until an escort came and let us off the airfield.


                     A horrible day that I wish I could forget, but need to remember !
