With all the fuss over the Lee statue in C-Ville it's easy to overlook another.

The Statue for the common man.

Not a general, but the average man. Who put his life on the line to stop an invading army !

Shallow-minded writers have tried hard to make it appear that slavery was the cause of that war; that the Southern men fought to keep their slaves. They utterly miss the point, or purposely pervert the truth.

In days gone by, the theological schoolmen held hot contention over the question as to the kind of wood the Cross of Calvary was made from. In their zeal over this trivial matter, they lost sight of the great thing that did matter; the mighty transaction, and purpose displayed upon that Cross.

Just in case the P.C. crowd succeeds in having the Lee statue removed,

I have no doubt the one in front of the court house will go also.

But "IF" they have success I have a small piece they can't take !

Using clay and plaster of Paris I made a copy of the Emblem.

How Far Will the Virginia Flaggers Go For Attention?

Silent Simpson !

Good ol Brook's so fast to hammer folks who post inaccurately.
But when one of the folks on his side of the fence does so, NOT ONE WORD !
Kevin shot his mouth off and was proven wrong.
As did quite a few commentators at his blog.
As for Kevin, he posted an apology to the Flaggers and S.C.V. but later removed it.
"NO HONOR AMONG THIEVES" I guess.

A few weeks ago I was asked a question, something like --

 " can't you honor your ancestors without flying the flag"

If the good Lord is willing, and the creek don't rise,
I will be in Richmond tomorrow for theHeadstone Dedication,

 I'm making up some commemorative ribbons for the occasion.

So the answer is "YES"

I can and do honor them without the Battle Flag. 

But ya know what ?

I'm willing to bet the Farm that a few Flags will be there also !

How about my First Amendment Rights ?

I underlined the section that relates to the VA Flaggers (and myself).
 You cannot take away our right to protest peacefully, and relegating the CBF to museums would do so.

How about my ability to Honor my ancestors, who fought against an invading army ?

I don't feel relegating the CBF to a museum or historical site is the proper thing to do.
I for one would love to see the CBF shown in more classrooms, not on belt buckles or T-Shirts, but in FAIR comparison to it's true meaning and use, with the Hi-Jacked images the KKK and skin heads use.

Twas a night before Christmas !

Twas a night before Christmas, and in cyber land,

No Floggers were blogging, and calling me "Klan"

It seems that ol Kevin was leaving HK. alone -

And Rob Baker from Georgia, was silent as stone.

While drinking my coffee, and taking a sip

I saw not one single word from the "LibertyLip"

And that guy named Al Mackey, as he seldom will do,

Had sealed his mouth shut, with fresh Crazy Glue !

Not one word from Corey, the habitual liar,

I guess he was warming his feet by the fire.

And it was quiet strange there was no Andy Hall

Had he slipped on the steps and taken a fall ?

And from Babblin Brooks Simpson, not one single word,

I thought to myself, it's nice but absurd---

No Mackey, No Sideshow, No Kevin or Andy

No Corey, or Simpson, I felt this was Dandy !

So I counted my blessings, and I turned off the light,

Merry Christmas to Y'all, & Y'all have a goodnight !

True Courage !

I was watching the movie "42" the other night, a great movie and one scene in particular comes to mind.

Harrison Ford playing Branch Rickey, says to Chadwick Boseman playing Jackie Robinson,

" I need a man with the courage to not fight back "

That was a fantastic line !

That being said I will get to the subject of this post -- Courage !

One of the most courageous people I know is Susan Hathaway, Yep the founder of the VA Flaggers.

This young lady stood in front of the VMFA alone with a Confederate Battle Flag to protest what many see as an injustice ( The removal of the CBF from the Chapel ), God bless her for that !

Now then by doing so she has come under constant attack from opponents who distort her reasons for carrying the flag.

One in particular Brooks Simpson, seems to have a fixation on Susan, he is constantly Brow Beating her,

making ludicrous accusations about her, and challenging her to reply to his comments.

She gives no reply to him ! So he calls her Silent Susan. I tell you what, Susan is anything but silent !

she ain't afraid of a microphone and don't mince her words, add to her speaking ability, a wonderful singing voice. And she is entertaining and informative.

So it's kinda like the Robinson story, Susan is out front forwarding the colors trying as best she can to protect all of our southern Ancestors. While The whole time the Floggers continue to attack her.

 She is a woman with the courage to not fight back and stays focused on her task.

An army is gathering at the border of your hometown, an invasion is imminent.

What would you do ?  Fight to protect you home, or roll over ?

Surely it was not for slavery they fought. The great majority of them had never owned a slave and had little or no interest in the institution. My own father, for example, had freed his slaves long years before; that is, all save one, who would not be "emancipated," our dear "Mammy," who clung to us when we moved to the North and never recognized any change in her condition or her relations to us. The great conflict will never be properly comprehended by the man who looks upon it as a war for the preservation of slavery.

        Nor was it, so far as Virginia was concerned, a war in support of the right of secession or the Southern interpretation of the Constitution. Virginia did not favor this interpretation; at least, she did not favor the exercise of the right of secession. Up to President Lincoln's call for troops she refused to secede. She changed her position under the distinct threat of invasion--the demand that she help coerce her sister States. This was the turning point. The Whig party, the anti-secession party of Virginia, became the war party of Virginia upon this issue. As John B. Baldwin, the great Whig and Union leader, said, speaking of the effect of Lincoln's call for troops, "We have no Union men in Virginia now." The change of front was instantaneous, it was intuitive. Jubal Early was the type of his party--up to the proclamation, the most extreme anti-secessionist and anti-war man in the Virginia Convention; after the proclamation, the most enthusiastic man in the Commonwealth in advocacy of the war and personal service in it.
