I saw not one single word from the "LibertyLip"

Had sealed his mouth shut, with fresh Crazy Glue !

Not one word from Corey, the habitual liar,

I guess he was warming his feet by the fire.

And it was quiet strange there was no Andy Hall

Had he slipped on the steps and taken a fall ?

And from Babblin Brooks Simpson, not one single word,

I thought to myself, it's nice but absurd---

No Mackey, No Sideshow, No Kevin or Andy

No Corey, or Simpson, I felt this was Dandy !

So I counted my blessings, and I turned off the light,

Merry Christmas to Y'all, & Y'all have a goodnight !

True Courage !

I was watching the movie "42" the other night, a great movie and one scene in particular comes to mind.

Harrison Ford playing Branch Rickey, says to Chadwick Boseman playing Jackie Robinson,

" I need a man with the courage to not fight back "

That was a fantastic line !

That being said I will get to the subject of this post -- Courage !

One of the most courageous people I know is Susan Hathaway, Yep the founder of the VA Flaggers.

This young lady stood in front of the VMFA alone with a Confederate Battle Flag to protest what many see as an injustice ( The removal of the CBF from the Chapel ), God bless her for that !

Now then by doing so she has come under constant attack from opponents who distort her reasons for carrying the flag.

One in particular Brooks Simpson, seems to have a fixation on Susan, he is constantly Brow Beating her,

making ludicrous accusations about her, and challenging her to reply to his comments.

She gives no reply to him ! So he calls her Silent Susan. I tell you what, Susan is anything but silent !

she ain't afraid of a microphone and don't mince her words, add to her speaking ability, a wonderful singing voice. And she is entertaining and informative.

So it's kinda like the Robinson story, Susan is out front forwarding the colors trying as best she can to protect all of our southern Ancestors. While The whole time the Floggers continue to attack her.

 She is a woman with the courage to not fight back and stays focused on her task.

God Bless ya Susan, Thanks for all your hard work !

Surely it was not for slavery they fought. The great majority of them had never owned a slave and had little or no interest in the institution. My own father, for example, had freed his slaves long years before; that is, all save one, who would not be "emancipated," our dear "Mammy," who clung to us when we moved to the North and never recognized any change in her condition or her relations to us. The great conflict will never be properly comprehended by the man who looks upon it as a war for the preservation of slavery.

        Nor was it, so far as Virginia was concerned, a war in support of the right of secession or the Southern interpretation of the Constitution. Virginia did not favor this interpretation; at least, she did not favor the exercise of the right of secession. Up to President Lincoln's call for troops she refused to secede. She changed her position under the distinct threat of invasion--the demand that she help coerce her sister States. This was the turning point. The Whig party, the anti-secession party of Virginia, became the war party of Virginia upon this issue. As John B. Baldwin, the great Whig and Union leader, said, speaking of the effect of Lincoln's call for troops, "We have no Union men in Virginia now." The change of front was instantaneous, it was intuitive. Jubal Early was the type of his party--up to the proclamation, the most extreme anti-secessionist and anti-war man in the Virginia Convention; after the proclamation, the most enthusiastic man in the Commonwealth in advocacy of the war and personal service in it.

Emma LeConte

• “Emma LeConte was a very young woman, only seventeen, when total war came to Columbia, South Carolina. However, she witnessed and recorded one of the most controversial examples of total war. She was the oldest of a family of daughters and her father Joseph LeConte was a science professor at the South Carolina College in Columbia. During the war he served as a chemist in the Confederate States Nitre and Mining Bureau.
  
  She did not lose immediate family members in the war, but as her diary begins on December 31, 1864, she writes, "Oh my country! Will I live to see thee subjugated and enslaved by those Yankees-surely every man and woman will die first. . . A sea rolls between them and us-a sea of blood. Smoking houses, outraged women, murdered fathers, brothers, and husbands forbid such a union. Reunion! Great Heavens! How we hate them with the whole strength and depth of our souls." Sherman's troops had not yet reached the Carolinas. During the second week of January 1865, Columbia held a Soldiers' Bazaar. Emma had expected to take interest in it, but writes instead. "It seems like the dance of death, and who can tell that Sherman may not get the money that was made instead of our sick soldiers. How long before our beautiful little city may be sacked and laid in ashes." She did not have long to wait. On February 174' she writes, "Well, they are here. I was sitting in the back parlor when I heard the shouting of the troops .... Iran upstairs to my bedroom windows just in time to see the U. S. flag run up over the State House.
  
  Oh, what a horrid sight! What a degradation! After four long bitter years of bloodshed and hatred, now to float there at last! That hateful symbol of despotism! I do not think I could possibly describe my feelings. I know I could not look at it." Later that day she records, "Gen. Sherman has assured the mayor `that he and all the citizens may sleep as securely and quietly tonight as if under Confederate rule. Private property shall be carefully respected." The next day, she records, "Strange as it may seem, we were actually idiotic enough to believe Sherman would keep his word! A Yankee-and Sherman! It does seem incredible, such credulity, but I suppose we were anxious to believe him-the lying fiend! I hope retributive justice will find him out one day."
  
  She describes the fires, "The fire on Main Street was now raging, and we anxiously watched its progress from the upper front windows. In a little while, however, the flames broke forth in every direction. The drunken devils roamed about, setting fire to every house the flames seemed likely to spare. They were fully equipped for the noble work they had in hand. Each soldier was furnished with combustibles compactly put up. They would enter houses in the presence of helpless women and children, pour turpentine on the beds and set them on fire. Guards were rarely of any assistance-most generally they assisted in pillaging and firing." Later, she adds, "I suppose we owe our final escape to the presence of the Yankee wounded in the hospital. When all seemed in vain, Dr Thompson went to an officer and asked if he would see his own soldiers burnt alive."
  
  Later, she adds, "This is civilized warfare. This is the way in which the `cultured' Yankee nation wars upon women and children! Failing with our men in the field, this is the way they must conquer!" On the 25th, still determined, she writes, "The more we suffer, the more we should be willing to undergo rather than submit." By this time, the destruction of the food is evident and she writes, "I hope relief will come before famine actually threatens. " Throughout this time, her father had been gone, removing government records, but on the 26, she reports, "At last I have something joyful to chronicle Father is returned!" Her last entry on August 6th explains why she has written so little, "As to the condition of the country and our unhappy state as a people, it would seem better not to think of that, still less to write of it. It makes me miserable and intensifies the wicked feelings I have too much anyway."

It's not that Complicated !

It's a hot day and you are walking through town , your feet are smokin hot from the concrete and asphalt, you pass by a lush green lawn, it has a sign, "Please Keep Off The Grass"

It doesn't say "No Trespassing" so would it be "proper" to take your shoes off and walk across the lawn ?

Your not walking across the lawn to damage it, but your poor feet are hot, so you say what's the harm? You also say I'm not breaking any law since the sign is a request!

Can you see where I'm coming from ?

Would it be "PROPER" to walk across the grass?

Basically the same thing, so out of respect should you should follow her request?

I say yes ! Respect and Honor are seriously lacking in today's society !

But some folks just don't care, It's more important to inflate their blog hits by using controversial methods and ignoring scruples!

It's a sad state of affairs. This reflects directly upon the pirate who ignored a polite request !

Yes I support the VA Flaggers!

Shortly before his passing my Great Grand Father: John C Tatum, who was a member of the Richmond Howitzers was a patient at the RE Lee camp #1 in Richmond Virginia.
The picture above is a copy of his discharge papers form the facility!

The VMFA has removed the Confederate flags from the chapel ! And I am informed this is a violation of VA State law.

But law or no law it's wrong to do so !

So given my family connection to the chapel and the RE Lee camp I do have a legitimate interest in what happens there.

I have on one occasion joined the Flaggers to protest this action. However my work prevents me from joining them as much as I would like.

So to thank the folks who carry the colors I made some ribbons for them. Just my way of saying thanks, and staying involved!


Well wouldn't ya know it, some Yankee bloggers have taken a cheap shot at this action.

My question to them is " What's it to you?" No tax dollars were spent I made them at my cost and send them for free to the Flaggers. Why do I have to be a "Nut" to do what I have done?

But as always anything Confederate is open to attack by folks who have nothing better to do!

Hey fellas get a life ! Promote your heritage, quit knocking mine! What I am doing doesn't cost you a cent. And it sure as Hell is not spreading a lie or hate!

So if you will please just tell me why it offends you I would appreciate it!

Prove It !

In recent exchanges with two "Northern Friendly" bloggers I have had them pound their chest and flaunt their educational superiority!

Both telling me I lacked the "Proper Training" to review and evaluate documentation.

It goes without saying my feelings were hurt! Gee I only have a High School education! I was at William and Mary college for a while back in the 60s but got the boot when they found out I was selling "Home Grown" to the college kids!

Well my lack of formal training is only a tripping point for them!

The picture below is the Shipping Manifest from 1619 that shows my Ancestor Nathaniel Tatum as being one of the "Indentured Passengers" who were on route to Jamestown VA.






I'm just wondering, can either of my "Northern Friendly" blogger friends show me some documentation from the same time frame for their ancestors?

Now then if they can't: I'm sure they will challenge my Documentation! A nice way to avoid the issue. Well I have the source of the documentation, as well as documentation that predates the above shipping manifest ! Call my Bluff ? What you wanna put up as a bet ? Black Confederates or not?

Which way is the wind blowing?

I have interesting news,

One of the revisionist blogger always downing the South and adamant that “Black Confederates” was another neo-Confederate plot has changed his mind.

Never matter that the “Corwin Amendment” resolved why we fought, he has long claimed “we” (The Confederate Taliban) were pushing Black Confederates to justify that the war was not over slavery!

Now he has admitted there black Confederates fought for the Confederacy".

So whats his stance on the subject?

Kinka like a hurricane forecast, it shows you a general direction but there is a wide path for variance!

I wish he would make up his mind!!!!

Sometimes I actually feel sorry for the folks that have been spoon fed historical comfort food for so long, that they cannot look Truth in the eye. So they blog some opinionated dribble and then close the door to comments. That’s about as cowardly and close minded as you can get!

The first thing wrong is it was not the first land battle!


The first land battle was at Big Bethel. 11 days before Manassas !

Thirty-five hundred men are on my right flank; 10,000 on my left. Please send reinforcements immediately. Yorktown and Williamsburg, in my rear, have troops quite insufficient in numbers to defend them.

But when you’re just spouting opinions why let a little thing like the facts get in the way?
Hell that might tend to slow down the rant of misinformation being spewed.


As for part 2 “the Big Lie that the Confederates weren't fighting to preserve slavery”
I guess once your belly is full of the comfort food (history) the winners have spoon fed you for so long, you no longer have to look for the truth, your belly is full and you are happy! Might as well take a nap and wait for the next feeding. After all why think for yourself? Let “The Man” do it for you, and you have one less thing to think about!

I have read many letters from the men in the field during the war I have yet to find one from a Confederate soldier that states he was fighting to preserve slavery. Nor have I found one from a Yankee soldier that says he was fighting to end it! Why do you think that is? Oh that’s right you don’t think you have had someone do that for you already, my mistake.

In 1861 a ringing call came to the manhood of the South. The world knows how the men of the South answered that call. Dropping everything, they came from mountains, valleys and plains— from Maryland to Texas, they eagerly crowded to the front, and stood to arms. What for? What moved them? What was in their minds?

Shallow-minded writers have tried hard to make it appear that slavery was the cause of that war; that the Southern men fought to keep their slaves. They utterly miss the point, or purposely pervert the truth. In days gone by, the theological schoolmen held hot contention over the question as to the kind of wood the Cross of Calvary was made from. In their zeal over this trivial matter, they lost sight of the great thing that did matter; the mighty transaction, and purpose displayed upon that Cross.

In the causes of that war, slavery was only a detail and an occasion. Back of that lay an immensely greater thing; the defense of their rights—the most sacred cause given men on earth, to maintain at every cost. It is the cause of humanity. Through ages it has been, pre-eminently, the cause of the Anglo-Saxon race, for which countless heroes have died. With those men it was to defend the rights of their States to control their own affairs, without dictation from anybody outside; a right not given, but guaranteed by the Constitution, which those States accepted, most distinctly, under that condition.

It was for that these men came. This was just what they had in their minds; to uphold that Solemnly guaranteed constitutional right, distinctly binding all the parties to that compact. The South pleaded with the other parties to the Constitution to observe their guarantee; when they refused, and talked of force, then the men of the South got their guns and came to see about it. They were Anglo-Saxons. What could you expect? Their fathers had fought and died on exactly this issue—they could do no less. As their noble fathers, so their noble sons pledged their lives, and their sacred honor to uphold the same great cause—peaceably if they could; forcibly if they must.

(So this is it, this is how a combatant who was in the war viewed it. Not an assumption made by a historian some 150 after the fact! We all should take into account that the majority of the white population of both nations, CSA and USA presumed the white race to be superior)


If no Blacks fought for the south why do so many Union battlefield reports say otherwise? OOOOPS once again I am asking you to think

Black Confederates

With all of the Hoo Ha over the existence of Black Confederates being fact or myth is seems pretty apparent that they existed, their status is the subject of the Neo-Yankees. Were they documented? Did they carry a gun? were they slaves? Did they serve willingly? Did they draw a pension? The list of questions as to their status goes on and on.

The advantage of a blog site is you can pretty much say what ya want to. So I’m gonna take advantage of that !

“I don’t care if the Black Men who served the Confederacy were brought down in space ships from Mars (surely the conditions were better than the ones in the Yankee slave ships) they were there, and it don’t make a Rats Bottom if they were cooks, musicians, teamsters, laborers or sharpshooters, If they stood beside their white, and Native American counterparts during the war they were Black Confederates.

Why is that so hard for “some” folks to grasp?

I don’t care if you got 3 PhD’s from Harvard, a BS from Princeton, and a BA from Eureka (Hell you might as well throw in a Blue Ribbon from the FFA for the biggest Bull) Black Men fought for the Confederacy to stop the invading Yankee forces and protect their homes.

As for the statement about perpetual slavery: have you ever read the Corwin amendment? You know the original 13th amendment?

Resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled, That the following article be proposed to the Legislatures of the several States as an amendment to the Constitution of the United States, which, when ratified by three-fourths of said Legislatures, shall be valid, to all intents and purposes, as part of the said Constitution, namely: ART. 13. No amendment shall be made to the Constitution which will authorize or give to Congress the power to abolish or interfere, within any State, with the domestic institutions thereof, including that of persons held to labor or service by the laws of said State. --12 United States Statutes at Large, 36th Congress, 2nd Session, 1861, p. 251.

Lincoln and company were willing to sell out the Black race for all time if the states that had seceded would rejoin the union. That fact alone kinda blows a hole in the war was over slavery issue! Lincoln offered perpetual slavery and the offer was refused!
You should thank the Confederate states for not accepting his offer!

As for ludicrous ! ( I don’t think you have read the Emancipation Proclamation)
Don’t Continue to praise Lincoln, no John Wilkes Booth would be better.
After all Mr. Booth shot the Great Emancipator , who was actively planning to deport blacks from American soil. But once again I’m letting facts get in the way!

A Slavers Flag ?

Anyone notice a similarity between the NY State flag and the composit picture below it?

Now then if somebody wants to protest a flag, why not protest one that has 2 slave ships, a A Nazi emblem, and The Rising sun ?

Oh I can hear it now " It's not the same flag, the Nazis and Rising Sun came after the flag wasadopted, and how do you know they are slave ships"? "You can't compare the two"

Ok! Fair enough! But the radical KKK, White Neo Nazis, and other hate groups who use the battle flag as a hate tool came long after the Confederate soldier, who was defending his home from an invading army! So how can "You" connect the two?
